2012 Particpating Photographers:

Having recently graduated from Cumberland School of Law, Jeremy Richter is endeavoring to practice law in Birmingham. He moved to the Birmingham area in 2004 to teach and coach high school in Gardendale, which he did for five years. Concurrently with that, he received a Masters degree from UAB, where he had two historical articles published. But for more than a decade, one of his enduring passions has been photography. It has been a guiding force, leading him to places he might not otherwise have gone and, most recently, helping keep him sane when law school was pushing toward chaos. In the last two years, Jeremy has kept a successful photoblog and had photographs published by NBC (Tyler, Texas), ABC 33/40 (Birmingham), and The Cumberland Lawyer.

Lee Harrelson, leeharrelsonphotographs.com.
After recieving a 35mm camera around the age of 12 years old, photography has taken Lee Harrelson down many different paths and provided not only a creative outlet, but a successful career as well. A commercial photographer with a client list from fashion to food, to jewelry , to conceptual art. Everything is fair game to the creative interpretations of Lee Harrelson.

Born and raised in BirminghamAlabama, Shanta Bender is an onsite, natural light photographer specializing in newborns, children, families and maternity.

Shanta is not only a photographer, but also a social worker, and people person at heart. Since she can remember, she has always loved taking pictures, and has always been comfortable in front and behind the camera, but her interest in photography began after watching her father take pictures. Yet, it was 2009 when she began to learn and pursue her passion for photography after she received her first DSLR camera, as a present after countless disposables and ‘point and shoot’ cameras.

Shanta has never taken a photography course or attended any photography school, but has learned photography through experimenting, independent study, and working under the tutorship of other established photographers; but most importantly by taking lots of photographs. As a photographer, Shanta finds beauty in everything and she will tell you, “If you can’t find beauty in something, you may not be looking hard enough. You just have to open your eyes; look, don’t just see.” Currently, Shanta is focusing on portrait photography, but loves to experiment in different areas of photography and take pictures of anything that will let her!

Shanta’s plans for the future is to keep learning photography and to become the best photographer she possibly can be, and hopefully start traveling to various locations to take photos.

Chad Moore, www.pifflepics.com
Chad Moore is a self taught photographer living in Birmingham, AL. His photography typically focuses on household items or toys that have escaped from the house and are wandering downtown Birmingham or the 'burbs of Vestavia Hills. His approach to his photography (and life) is to find humor and whimsy in even the most mundane subject matter. Chad's artwork has been featured in an exhibit at The Wiregrass Museum of Art in Dothan, AL and is on display at Naked Art in Birmingham, AL.
His favorite desert is Tiramisu.

Arthur Rush
Arthur Rush was born in New Orleans, Louisiana.  He got his interest in photography from his Dad, who loved to photograph his family of 6, and make home movies of them, as well.   Arthur got a camera about the time he started middle school.  It didn't take long before he was asking his dad questions about why the pictures he took with his Kodak Instamatic didn't look like the pictures he saw in Sports Illustrated and National Geographic.

Arthur's family moved to Birmingham while he was in high school.   He went on to the University of Alabama, and got a degree in Communications.   Today Arthur feels blessed to work in the Corporate Communications department at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama as a Senior Multi-Media Specialist. He's been shooting stills, and shooting and editing videos there since 1991.  He also enjoys photography in his free time, and is frequently taking pictures and making home movies of his family.

Gerry Daniel is a fine art photographer based in Birmingham, AL. His work covers a variety of genres that include nature, landscape, macro, abstract, water, urban, travel, and concert photography. Gerry's work has been featured in a number of exhibitions, published in online magazines, and his nature was the subject of a segment on Wake-Up Alabama on WIAT CBS 42 in Birmingham, Alabama. The heart of Gerry's work is closely connected to his love of nature and his commitment to protecting and preserving the environment. Many of his photographs feature scenes from nature preserves in Alabama.
